Q5 was one of only two vehicles of this type ordered by the country area of London Transport in 1934. It went into service from Leatherhead garage on route 406, but between 1936 and 1938 was based at Reigate (where this is likely to have been taken) on route 410.

It is remarkable that this bus was ordered only 10 years after the S type shown above, was built.
