We currently live in this house. Very keen to find out some further history of the property should anyone know of anyone that previously resided here. Thank you

Does anyone know of a house that was in 1916, called The Knowe? I have a letter written to my grandfather in that year and unfortunately the signature is very faint, and so indecipherable. However the letter is written on writing paper printed with the
address "The Knowe Reigate Surrey". I would be very grateful if anyone can help. Thanks Jenny

Hi Jenny, with regards to your question we had at home many years ago a walking stick acquired by my grandfather who ran "The Locomotive" pub in Redhill, and around it was a silver band with the following inscription "Cut on Mount Royal by A McCullock, Montreal and presented to W L Peacock 120 Pall Mall London & The Knowe Reigate" William Lawson Peacock was a fine arts dealer operating from 120 Pall Mall and the address of The Knowe given on the 1911 census was 93 Doods Road. The address 93 Doods Road now appears to be a modern building of flats so I suspect the old house was pulled down. Hope this helps. Regards Roger

Hi, I have been researching William Lawson Peacock as part of an ongoing project, and wondered if Jenny Ford might allow me to see a copy of that letter to her Grand Father.
Thanks, Andy

I am interested that Andy Ramus is researching William Lawson Peacock: he was my great-grandfather, and we have also done some research on him recently, specifically about the art dealership.
Regards, James

Hi James Robertson, I've only just seen this comment of yours. If you'd like to know what info I have on William Lawson Peacock, I'd be happy to share it. Here is a link you can copy and paste of my overall research, which he is a part of. www.wolf-e-boy.com/The-Ring-Master-John-William-Godward
Hope it works for you.

I have come to this website a bit late but, like James, I too am a great grandson of William Lawson Peacock. I am working to put together the links between the Peacock family and the Malleson family. My father, Deric Malleson, was page boy at the marriage of William's second daughter, Helen, to George Robertson and my grandmother was Winifred, William's third daughter. I would be very interested in sharing/swapping information on the Peacock family and their life in Reigate and on William's picture dealing life, particularly his work in Canada.
